Read the interview below and then check out some really smart design treatments highlighted from Alander Wong’s PHOTO QUOTE project.

Where did the idea come from to make Photo Quote? First of all, people were saying that it will be the end of the world in 2012, and I started to feel a bit boring at my full-time work, wanna do something personally work, don’t wanna be too lazy anymore, also I like taking snap a lot which I can get use of my photo for design, so PHOTO QUOTE came up on my mind naturally, I target to myself to make one PHOTO QUOTE a day as a one year project, hopefully I am still making it and waiting for the result after one year’s work!
Describe to us your workspace like? I just work at home with my iMac and a messy desk, haha.
Who is a graphic designer you admire? There are so many, like Kashiwa Sato, Kenjiro Sano, Kimura Yutaka, Ryosuke Uehara, Yoshie Watanabe in Japan, Non-Format, m/m Paris, Vince Frost etc. They are all excellent designers around the world and I admire them a lot.
What is your favorite typeface? It maybe a boring answer, Helvetica is the typeface I like and use the most in my daily life, but it’s really useful for any design. But recently I liked to use Gotham too, it’s an interesting fonts actually.
What about living in Hong Kong do you find influential and inspirational as a graphic designer? Sure! As Hong Kong is a place that full of multi-culture, I can see different design from different country start from my childhood already.
Who would be your dream artist to work with? Why? Kimura Yutaka in Japan and m/m Paris, Kimura Yutaka worked with a Japanese singer Shiina Ringo who I love the most, his design for her are just excellent! m/m Paris are just too great in typography and their design for Björk are excellent too! Actually I like CD Cover Art so much, maybe it’s the reason why I admire them so much.
Who/what was your biggest artistic influence growing up? I may say I got influenced by Japanese culture the most, no matter music, cartoon, pop-culture and design, my childhood are all surrounded by Japanese-Culture!
What/who is on your radar right now? I would say Keane as I’m addicted to their new album recently, and Azalia Banks, her music is so nice!
What is a quote or lyric that is a personal favorite? “Perfection Is Not Just About Control It’s Also About Letting Go.” From the movie Black Swan.
