Everything Is A Remix

Did you know Hunter S. Thompson retyped Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby just to get the feel of writing a great novel? Did you know Bob Dylan’s first album contained 11 cover songs? Why does this matter? Well, according to the project – Everything Is A Remix (video below) – “nothing starts out original” and “we can’t introduce anything new until we are fluent in the language of our domain.” We have to agree with this messaging, even though saying nothing starts out original does sound sad – it just goes to show that with creativity comes a challenge – a big challenge. Remember for the most part – we are all working and creating with the same resources – competition and similarities in creation are inevitable …

We realize Hunter S. Thompson was not of the internet age – but we are of the internet age and that introduces so many new elements to creativity. You better believe that the top innovators of today in all creative fields not only know who their competitors are, but they know where their personal idea spawned from and how their innovation is going to competitively stand out from the other creations of similarity. Watch this video below and you will get what we are talking about – we warn you the guys voice over in the video below is fairly monotone, but the messaging is a good motivator to explore the space you are looking to create within.

Let us know how you (writers, musicians, filmmakers, photographers and artists) take advantage of the internet to proficiently understand your creative domain? Do you agree with the messaging in this above video? Is everything a remix?
