Maira Kalman Warns You To Never Be Bored

Maira Kalman is an artist, designer, author, illustrator, and photographer and she has participated in THNKR’s series “Epiphany” where she was asked to discuss feeling vs thinking. She believes walking clears your brain and fills your soul and makes you quite happy. Kalman explains that her work is an ongoing output of the world as she sees it, as she takes in the unknown walking around the city. We couldn’t agree with Maira more that “wonderful things happen when your brain is empty.” Watch this video and then go take a walk and clear you mind of feelings and thought to make room for new ideas. Take in the unknown, incorporate your random discoveries into your story, remember not to be bored for too long.

EPIPHANY, a daily series that invites impassioned thought leaders across all disciplines to reveal the innovative, the improbable, and the unexpected of their worlds.

  1. People over think too much! I feel that some of the best results to personal problems come when you least expect it. Whether it’s walking or driving, I see things come to me easier when I’m doing something else. New perspectives bring new solutions.

  2. I completely agree we think too much. I try to teach clients and students to take time out of thinking. Being mindful of your moment is the way to go. Mindfulness helps us to be immediately with what is happening right now. Give it a try especially when thinking overtakes your life. However there are many times when thinking is crucial – but controlling it helps us manage a realistic life.
