Melanie Chernock is a student in New York at the School of Visual Arts. You have probably seen her video piece on the History Of MTV or you may have caught wind of her custom designed Metrocards. After speaking with Melanie we found out that she isn’t actually trying to clean-up the NYC subway system with better looking cards, but we really want to encourage her to take her Metrocard Project one step-further – which means your eyes and your encouragement to push her project to becoming a reality!

Find the full gallery of Metro Card original designs on Melanie’s website.
Have you reached to the MTA about your Metro Card designs? If so what’s the next step? I haven’t looked into reaching out to them yet. I feel as if the series isn’t complete – I would ideally like there to be 50 redesigns total. Hopefully more people will start to show interest in the project and it can become a reality!
What is your favorite tool or app you use for design? Photoshop and Illustrator.
Do you collect anything? I’m not big on collecting – I feel claustrophobic owning too many things.
What is something that has inspired you recently? Cheesy 80′s Music.
What is your most creative time of day? 3 AM.
What is overrated? What is underrated? Sleep is overrated. And … It’s not really underrated, but I’m pretty obsessed with the typeface Gotham, I’ve used it in the majority of work within the past year.
Who is someone we should have on our radar? Kelly Shami, a friend of mine who is also a graphic designer. Check out her website. She has a great clothing line too.
