Thrash Lab “Profiles” mixed medium painter and emerging Brooklyn based artist Devin Troy Strother in his Los Angeles studio, back in his hometown for his second solo exhibit at the Richard Heller Gallery. Devin’s artwork is a hybrid of many crafts – painting, sculpture, collage, paper dolls, some might even consider his work a diorama. A trademark in all his art is his delivery of in-your-face titles (ex: Black Gurrrl vs. White Gurrrl, “Fuck That Bitch.”), derived from an overheard conversation or a social taboo that sparked Devin’s creativity – he crafts a social experience using cut-out people and orchestrates a narrative. In this video Devin reveals how he develops his paintings, what makes his style so loud and so “American” and how he tells a story.
