Interview: What’s Up With Anne Marsen? You know, the girl who wore the pastel colored windbreaker and did splits in mid-air throughout NYC dancing to Girl Talk in Jacob Krupnick’s Girl Walk // All Day film? Well, her energy captivated us and we thought we should learn more about her.
If you were to have a theme song play every time you enter the room, what would
that be? ‘B.O.B.’ – Outkast. And this entrance would be a dancing one.
What is your favorite life noise? CICADAS! On a late New Jersey summer night…
What is your favorite moment of yourself in the Girl Walk // All Day film? Each of the “PIGEON!” moments at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal & Bowling Green are just gifts from above. Also the Occupy Wall Street scene was a chance for me to make a bit of a message and tell a bit of a story by playing a character far from myself. I hope to explore more kinds of different wacky characters now.
What is overrated culturally right now? What is underrated? Making money so you can look like what you see in advertisements. Finding genuine happiness & health for yourself and then sharing what you discover with others.
What is something or someone you recommend the people reading this interviewhave on their radar? My friend Jeff Lieberman’s TEDx Talk on Science & Spirituality. And this quote as I think it relates to his talk & the reason why a lot of people are too scared to be free with their bodies in public when they grow up: “If you mistreat an animal, it becomes afraid. This is what has happened to your psyche. You have mistreated it by giving it a responsibility that is incomprehensible. Just stop for a moment and see what you have given your mind to do. You said to your mind, ‘I want everyone to like me. I don’t want anyone to speak badly of me. I want everything I say and do to be acceptable and pleasing to everyone. I don’t want anyone to hurt me. I don’t want anything to happen that I don’t like. And I want everything to happen that I do like.’ Then you said, ‘Now, mind, figure out how to make every one of these things a reality, even if you have to think about it day and night.’ And of course your mind said, ‘I’m on the job. I will work on it constantly.” — Michael Singer –
If you were to cast yourself in any film or TV sitcom what character would you play and why? Hmmm…If this was ever a role, haha… I wish I could play a cross between Amelie…and Beatrix Kiddo! I love how big Amelie’s heart is and all the creative good deeds she does for strangers and then Beatrix… she’s KICK-ASS and doesn’t take shit from the people that have wronged her. I’m not really a violent person and I’m trying to let go of things more in general… but I imagine all that martial art work has got to be really meditative as well as a great release of aggression! I would love to be trained by the best of the best in sword-ship & Kung-Fu in preparation for that role!
